A Slice of Brooklyn Christmas Lights Tour" invites New Yorkers and tourists alike to come and visit the Italian-American section of Dyker Heights, whose beautiful Christmas decorations were made famous in the PBS documentary "Dyker Lights". This 3 1/2 hour tour includes an audio-visual presention, mechanical reindeer, glowing nativity scenes, dazzling lights, and old-fashioned holiday cheer...and who can forget the30-foot toy soldiers!
Each year, the Italian-American residents of this neighborhood compete to have the biggest, best, and brightest Christmas yard displays. In addition to over-the-top Christmas lights, there are large inflatable Chrsitmas decorations, animatronic toys and motorized displays. An estimated 100,000 people cruise the neighborhood each year, basking in the glow of the glorious excess. |
